Dokkan is a traditional name for a small store, and it used in several languages of the Middle East, including Arabic. We chose Dokkan for the name of our business because we showcase handicrafts created by artisans in rural villages in Egypt. Each of our pieces is unique and tells its own story, one enriched with a combination of contemporary and historic culture.
Creating handicrafts is a tradition in many rural villages in Egypt and is often the primary source of income for marginalized artisans striving to support their families. Dokkan selects and purchase high quality handicrafts to support and empower artisans from rural villages across Egypt as they actively and successfully participate in their own welfare.
Dokkan was born out of our passion and personal interest in making a difference in people’s lives.
Dokkan Mission is to bring the attention of the world market to the exceptional beauty and allure of high-quality Egyptian handicrafts from rural Egypt. Purchase of their unique creations brings sustainable positive change to the lives of disadvantaged artisans and their families. Each piece has its own story of artisan and origin.
